MakeMKV 是一款 DVD 和藍光光碟轉 MKV 軟體，跨平台，支援 Windows、Mac OS X 和 Linux 作業系統。這款軟體簡單易用，只要放入光碟，然後按一個鍵，即可快速將 DVD 光碟和藍光光碟裡的電影完整轉成單一 .mkv 檔，而且還能解除 AACS 與 BD+ 的加密保護。轉檔時甚至可選定要保留的章節或段落。電影中的所有影片和音軌 (包括 HD Audio)、字幕、章節資訊、中繼資訊 (不同語系、聲音類型等) 都會被完整備份，不會有任何失真。
此外，這款軟體亦可用 ISO 檔和 Video_TS 資料夾做為影片轉檔的輸入來源。不過，它有免費版和付費版，前者被限制只能做 DVD 光碟轉檔，但軟體若為 Beta 版，則開放所有功能讓使用者免費使用。目前有許多影音播放軟體可以播放 .mkv 檔，包括 VLC Media Player、MPlayer for Windows 等等。

The program is your one-click solution to convert video that you own into free and patents-unencumbered format that can be played everywhere. It converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way.
